Juliana Runs NYC

I’m beyond excited to run the 2025 New York City Marathon this November. New York is always a place I’ll call home, with its energy, diversity, and unmatched spirit. It’s where my passion for the sport began, fueled by the city’s vibrant atmosphere and the incredible people who have made it “home”. Racing through its streets, past its landmarks, and feeling the roar of thousands of spectators will be an unforgettable experience. This marathon also gives me the opportunity to support KultureCity, a cause that is very close to my heart.

Throughout my life, I’ve had a front row seat to the challenges a family member has faced being deaf in one ear. The experience of navigating a world that isn’t always accommodating to sensory sensitivities shaped my understanding of the importance of inclusion. KultureCity’s mission to create more accessible spaces for people with sensory needs resonates deeply with me. They work to ensure that everyone, regardless of their sensory challenges, can fully engage comfortably in experiences and be included without barriers.

Lastly, this year marks the 10th Anniversary of my dear friend Eric Nadeau’s passing. Eric tragically lost his life while training for this very marathon. He was someone who truly embodied inclusivity, making everyone around him feel welcomed, seen, and valued.. despite any differences. His spirit of togetherness mirrors KultureCity’s mission to create a world where everyone is given the opportunity to participate fully. With every mile, I’ll carry his legacy of inclusivity forward, celebrating his impact that he has had on myself and so many others.

Your donation will directly support KultureCity’s programs, helping to ensure that no one is left out due to sensory limitations. I’m honored to run for such an important cause and incredibly grateful for your support. Together, we can create a more inclusive world.

For Finish Lines and Field Trips

On October 12th, 2020 my son was diagnosed with autism. Although it was difficult news, so much of his behaviors and anxieties began to make sense—he had struggled in crowds and in noisy areas for as long as we could remember. I’d been an avid runner before he was born but when he’d come to watch me race, finish lines were usually uncomfortable.

Since that day in October we’ve learned a lot about how to best help my son in social situations and we’ve put to practice all that KultureCity has to offer. We’ve visited zoos and museums and grab sensory bags and have taken breaks in quiet zones. As a mom, I am keenly aware of situations that might not be sensory friendly and safe and those instances create stress for me. When my child goes on a field trip, I typically go along and have helped him leave spaces his class is in simply because he’s overwhelmed. I know in those moments that I’m blessed to be there for him but understand the anxiety that parents and loved ones feel when they can’t go along. I know that for every child in sensory crisis there are overworked teachers and staff trying to help. I also believe in inclusion and know that when a finish or a trip is KultureCity certified that there are tools and trained staff available to help mitigate overload and make the experience better for everyone.

With high hopes for reasonably accommodating finish lines and field trips, I am running for KultureCity.
