I’m excited to share that I’ll be running the New York City Marathon in support of KultureCity, an incredible nonprofit dedicated to creating sensory accessibility and inclusion for individuals with sensory needs and invisible disabilities.

While I am not personally acquainted to anyone with sensory needs, I have had the pleasure of being involved with the KultureCity Birmingham Race for the last two years. Having not heard of KultureCity prior to assuming this position, I was incredibly impressed to learn about the impact that they deliver to not only the state of Alabama, but the entire country. This initial learning was just the beginning of my admiration for what KultureCity does and the services they provide. Over the last two years at the KC Bham Race, I have had the pleasure to witness first hand the impact that they provide to families of individuals with sensory needs, the community as a whole and most importantly, individuals with sensory needs. To say that experiencing this has been impactful would be an understatement.

As a former athlete and avid lover of all sports, I am a firm believer that sports are an avenue to bring people together and inclusiveness. Sensory issues can sometimes be portrayed as a barrier to something like running a half marathon, or full marathon. KultureCity works relentlessly to tear those barriers down and make opportunities like these available to ALL. While this will be my 3rd full marathon, it will be my first one benefitting a non-profit. I could not be more excited and proud to represent a cause that promotes running as an instrument of inclusiveness, because that’s what sports are for!

Running the New York City Marathon is a personal challenge, but it’s also an opportunity to support a cause that is making a real difference for families and individuals across the country. Every mile I run will represent the importance of inclusion, understanding, and accessibility.

I’m raising funds to help KultureCity continue expanding their programs and making more spaces sensory inclusive. Your support, whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser will help create environments where everyone feels welcome and supported.
