I’m so excited to join the Kulture City Fit team for NYC Marathon! As an educator in a pediatric hospital I get the privilege to see kids receive inclusive support and care transforming their entire healthcare experience! I’m dedicating this marathon to all the kids at Children’s of Alabama that benefit from our Sensory Pathway program along with my neurodivergent friends who have inspired me by sharing their journey with me! Donating will continue to help make their journeys in life and healthcare inclusive!

This November I will be running the 2024 NYC Marathon! This marathon not only represents a personal challenge in my running journey but also serves as an opportunity to fundraise for an incredible organization – KultureCity!

KultureCity is the nation’s leading nonprofit on sensory accessibility and acceptance for those with invisible disabilities. There is so much beauty in diversity, and even when that diversity can’t exactly be “seen” it’s important to create an environment that is nurturing and encouraging of differences.

I am beyond excited to run the NYC Marathon with KultureCity, an organization that holds a special place in my heart. A mission to “make the nevers possible,” provides opportunities for those with sensory sensitivities and disabilities to fully participate in events, experiences, and pursue their dreams without barriers.

I have completed at least one marathon every month for over 5 years. NYC will be my fourth World Major Marathon! This run is extra special because each step forward in training, the marathon itself, and especially fundraising is one step closer to sensory accessibility and inclusion for all.

And while KultureCity is truly changing the world, they are making huge and noticeable impacts in our communities.

I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of their work through individuals like Adrienne Bunn and my friend Jack Knight. Adrienne, despite facing doubts living with autism, she has become the youngest Ironman World Champion at Kona Hawaii, empowered by KultureCity’s support. Similarly, Jack, living with autism and primarily non-verbal, has achieved remarkable feats, including completing the NYC marathon.

Kulture City’s cause hits close to him, as I have known people with invisible disabilities and I will do anything to be able to help out.

My name is Mauricio, and I’m originally from Mexico but now I reside in Texas. Running has been a passion for me as of recently, and my goal is to run all major marathons at least once!

After taking up running the past 5 years and completing many half marathons, I have the opportunity to run the New York City Marathon in 2024 with Kulture City! This is an amazing organization based in Birmingham that “makes the nevers possible.” They create sensory accessibility and inclusion for those with invisible disabilities.  I would love your support to bring more awareness to Kulture City as I embark on this next challenge- in my favorite city, NYC!

This will be my first NYC marathon and first running with a team. I am excited to be back in the streets of New York where I started my running journey. I am lucky enough to be able to join Kulture City and support the mission of inclusion and to make the nevers possible!

This year, Lift 4 Autism and KultureCity are designating funds raised for autism families struggling in the face of financial difficulties. Last year we raised over $105,000, and we are so excited to see how the romance reading community rallies around families during these extraordinary times.

I’m thrilled to raise support, and awareness, for KultureCity as I train my way to run New York City Marathon.

I am hosting a half marathon (and 5k and 10k) run in February. The course highlights some notable spots around Birmingham and pays tribute to a race route we all loved.

After taking up running the past 5 years and doing many half marathons, I have decided to take on a new challenge and run the NYC Marathon in 2024. I have the honor of doing this with Kulture City! This is an amazing organization based in Birmingham that “makes the nevers possible.” They create sensory accessibility and inclusion for those with invisible disabilities.  Beginning in 2024, I will be a running ambassador for Kulture City to help spread awareness of this organization in all of the runs I participate in. Let’s kick off 2024 with the Pensacola Half Marathon in January!

I’m honored to be supporting KultureCity’s mission of inclusion for a 4th NYC Marathon.  Although neither of my children have autism or sensory disabilities by supporting Kulture City’s mission for inclusion, I can help children and adults with sensory disabilities have the same opportunities to experience the world the same way my kids can.  This is the true meaning of inclusion.
